MANPOWER SECTOR IN BANGLADESH

Manpower Sector in Bangladesh

Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) has been established in the year 1976 by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Previously, it was an attached department of the Ministry of Manpower Development and Social Welfare. The main purpose of this establishment is to meet the manpower requirement of the country and for export of manpower as well. BMET is engaged for overall planning and implementation of the strategies for proper utilization of manpower in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has an overpopulation issue which grows with passing time. But with the growing population, the job sector is not expanding to meet the demand of unemployed people. A large number of people are skilled, unskilled or semiskilled. If we are able to ensure training, the unskilled, semi-skilled people, they will become the wealth of the country and will be able to be exported manpower abroad and earn remittance.

Remittances have now become a largest single source of foreign exchange earnings in Bangladesh. Remittance has become a dominant variable for economic development of Bangladesh. Remittance contributes towards increasing the income of the remittance receiving households and the standard of living. It increases investment in human capital, household consumption and also stimulates the savings and investment. At the household level remittances are used for meeting basic needs and other family expenses. Remittances have both direct and indirect impacts on micro and macro level economics.

Manpower Export not only benefits the remittance receiving families but also contributes to the growth of output and national income. It helps to support payment of imported capital goods and raw materials for industries. The direct contributions of remittances to national income have grown rapidly in the past decade. Remittances have contributed to increase the foreign exchange reserve of Bangladesh. We have a large unemployed labor force.

Unemployment is a chronic problem in Bangladesh and it is possible to solve problem to a great extent by exporting manpower.

Recognizing the importance of remittance and migration, a Recruiting Agency plays a vital role to lessen unemployment in Bangladesh and helps the country economically.
